Losing weight does not need to be an expensive endeavor. There is no need to purchase equipment that will likely become a laundry rack, nor join a gym. Glance around your house with fresh eyes and you will see that you already have a custom gymnasium in your home.
Stairs are an excellent workout. Imagine, people pay thousands of dollars for stationary stair machines. All it takes is ten minutes a day of climbing up and down the stairs you have built in to your house to burn a good amount of calories. Also try placing one foot flat on the ground and the other placed on a step so the raised thigh is parallel to the ground and the knee forms a ninety degree angle. Now do squats, bending the straight leg forward. Repeat a few times, then switch.
Canned good or heavy cooking items can be just as good as a weight set. Take a can of corn or spaghetti sauce and do bicep curls while standing. Next, lean over a bench or table so you are bent at a ninety degree angle at the waste, facing the ground. Place one hand flat on the bench and place the same-side knee on the bench as well. Take the can of corn in the opposite hand. Keeping that elbow glued to your side, bring the can slowly to your shoulder then straighten your arm so the can is at your hip. You have just done at-home bicep curls. Repeat a few times and switch sides. If you are in to heavier lifting, try lifting books or a bench above your head in a shoulder press. Do not lift anything that is too heavy for you as this will cause injury.
For a leg workout, try holding on to a heavy item, such as a book, and doing squats. A good squat starts with your feet shoulder width apart. When you squat down, your knees should never go beyond your toes and your butt should stick out. Calf raises can also be done anytime, anywhere, and to intensify the effect simply hold a heavy object.
